a creative way to make a pen/pencil holder?

Empty glass food jars make really nice picture frame/pencil cup holders.

1) Place your favorite photo in the inside of the glass and mount and seal it flat against the glass with duct tape which is thick enough to prevent the photo from being torn when sharp pencils are inside.

2) Hand paint and embellish/bejewel a decorative border around the photo on the outside to hide the edges of backside of the tape and after it's dry, give it a couple of coats of clear spray enamel to help protect the hand painted designs.

If you add stipple work (making lots of dots) using those little puffy paints from the craft stores on the frame work, or just any kind of fun puffy designs you can make on the whole jar adds special interest and dimension. And finish it off with a ribbon or other decorative finish to the lip/lid edge around the top of the jar.

Or even thin fabric or fine decorative paper origami paper decopaged on the inside of the cup with or without a combination of paint on the outside looks so beautiful and just be sure to give your work both in and out a few coats of crystal clear to protect it.
